Seawool® Shawl-Neck Cardigan

On a fall evening near the coast, a heavy shawl-neck cardigan belongs over the back of the chair before it belongs on a hanger. It is the layer a man reaches for after the wind comes up off the water, with coffee still warm in the kitchen and pine smoke somewhere beyond the porch.

Hemingway, South Carolina

Hemingway sits inland of Pawleys Island, between the pine ridge and the salt creeks that drain toward the Atlantic. Porch-and-pine country: dove fields, deer woods, turkey ground, a two-lane road pace, and the smell of salt somewhere east when the wind is right. The cardigan form fits that world: a cable-knit shawl neck for the reading chair, the captain's chair, and the porch after a long day on the water.

Shell, bottle, yarn

Seawool® starts with oyster shells, ground to a powder, and yarn spun from bottles that came out of the water. The result is a wool-like hand with odor control at the fiber level, moisture-wicking, thermal regulation, UV resistance, and the kind of durability that shows itself over a season of wear. The Hemingway is made with two-ply yarn for body and weight, cable knit across the body, and finished with a wide shawl collar, two hip pockets, and a five-button front.

The sweater you reach for when the sky has gone grey, the deck is wet, and the work of the day is done. The one that hangs on a hook by the cabin door, ready for the next cold morning.
