There was a moment in the American hunting tradition when the old makers stopped asking one coat to answer every kind of weather. By the 1960s, hunting catalogs out of Utica and Binghamton were showing a new second piece: a quilted, synthetically insulated jacket cut to ride under canvas or stand on its own. The Sportsman’s Layering Jacket carries that thinking forward. The Sportsman’s Field Coat is the shell. This jacket is the warmth. Together they make a system, but neither depends on the other to earn its place. The form still works because the morning still changes between the truck, the walk in, and the long sit.

The warmth beneath the canvas

One hundred grams of synthetic fill gives the jacket enough insulation for the cold start and the hours when a man is no longer moving. It stays light enough to wear beneath outerwear without turning the shoulders bulky. The cut runs close through the chest and shoulders so it settles under the Sportsman’s Field Coat without bunching, while leaving room for a flannel underneath.

A full-zip front can be opened on the walk and closed again when the work slows. The hem sits below the waist and above the seat, short enough to clear a shotgun and long enough to stay in place under a hunting belt. Camo is the single F/W 26 colorway, giving the jacket a plain life of its own when the canvas stays home.
