This bird carries the campaign service medal for Operation Enduring Freedom — the longest war in American history. An entire generation was committed to it. We are giving them back twenty-four decoys to help commemorate their service for generations to come. The black ribbon in front of the bird is for those who did not come home. A portion of every one sold goes to the Global War on Terrorism Memorial Foundation, the organization congressionally designated to build the memorial that will stand on the National Mall.

Lineage

This is a Heritage Series bird, made in New Bern, North Carolina. The bench it was hand-painted on is the same bench that finishes every Heritage Series bird before it leaves the shop. The pattern follows the drake widgeon — Mareca americana — a quiet, common ducker most hunters recognize from the marsh edge at first light.

The medal and the ribbon

The medal painted on the back of the bird is the campaign service medal awarded to service members who deployed to the Global War on Terrorism, specifically Operation Enduring Freedom — the longest war in American history. The black ribbon laid in front of the bird is the figure-eight mourning loop. It is for those who did not come home.

The foundation

A portion of every one sold goes to the Global War on Terrorism Memorial Foundation. The Foundation is the organization congressionally designated to design and build the national memorial that will stand on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. — the first national memorial in a generation to honor the people who served in the longest war in American history.
